Dear Us*:

Dear Us,

It’s me again. Today is going to be a good day. We’re going to love ourselves and love those around us, and maybe Love God too. We’re going to say no to drugs, and say yes to homeless men who need pennies. Because it’ll probably be too scary to actually talk to the homeless man or invite the homeless man in for a meal.

Maybe he needs a new kind of two cents. Maybe be needs to know that beggars can be choosers. Because choosers are never beggars. Maybe he’s a drug addict. We’ll ask him that first, because if he does turn out to be a drug addict, he can’t even have our two pennies, because he might go buy drugs with it. And if I don’t give him money, then he’ll stop doing drugs. Besides, drugs are horrible. It’s nothing like that secret thing we’re addicted to—that horrible thing that keeps us awake at night…but wait. We promised that we wouldn’t think about that. Remember, today is going to be a good day. We’re going to love ourselves and love those around us, and maybe Love God too.
